Saturday 11th October saw our first monthly meeting of the new year (yes, we’re weird, we start our year in October), and we were lucky to have Chris and Susie Taylor from Taylors Clematis with us. Chris and Susie gave a fascinating talk on all the different types of clematis called ‘Clematis the year round’. It was a very well named talk as (and this was news to me) there is a clematis which will be in flower in every month of the year. And there are big clematis, patio clematis, and even miniature clematis.
Each clematis falls into one of three pruning groups. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you what they are, but if you look at their website or the first page of their catalogue, everything is explained there.
Chris and Susie also brought a wide selection of plants with them to sell, and they did a brisk trade, with many members leaving with two or three plants. And what did I buy, I hear you ask? Nothing – but then that was because I won the raffle. And here is my lovely prize – a clematis ‘Rosemoor’. I’m trying it out in one of my half oak barrels. I do hope it works.
